To uphold standards of professional conduct and promote good ethical standards and discipline among journalists.

Advise Government on training

To advise the Government on matters pertaining to the education and training of journalists.

Set standards for professional education & training

In consultation with the relevant institutions, set standards for professional education and training of journalists.

Build links with similar organizations

To establish links with similar organizations within and outside the United Republic.

Prepare training for journalists

In consultation with the Council, to prepare training for journalists.

Maintain a roll of accredited journalists

To maintain a roll of accredited journalists.

Administer Board accounts & assets

To administer the accounts, assets and liabilities of the Board.

Carry out other directed functions

To carry out such other functions as the Minister may direct.

Establish such number of committees as may be necessary for the better carrying out of its functions.

suspend or expunge journalists from the roll of accredited journalists.

impose fines for non compliance as may be prescribed in the Regulations; and

Set fees and charges for accreditation.
