President Samia Allocates TZS 20 Billion as Content Creators Benefit from TZS 2 Billion Fund
Dodoma - The Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Hon. Paul Christian Makonda, has announced that the Journalists Accreditation Board (JAB), in collaboration with the Tanzania Culture and Arts Fund, will facilitate financial support for young people engaged in the media sector through affordable loans aimed at boosting content production and creativity. Presenting the Ministry’s budget estimates for the 2026/2027 financial year, Hon. Makonda revealed that the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has allocated TZS 20 billion to the Culture and Arts Fund. Out of this amount, TZS 2 billion has already been disbursed as loans to online content creators. He explained that the funds are intended to enable content creators to acquire essential equipment, improve the quality of their productions, and expand their output to meet both local and international market demands. This initiative is seen as a major boost for young people working in the media and creative industries, as it opens up new opportunities for accessing capital, modern tools, and scaling their work to competitive standards. “These funds are aimed at empowering content creators to access production tools, enhance the quality of their work, and increase their competitiveness in the digital market,” said Hon. Makonda. He added that the move reflects a significant shift in how the Government recognizes and invests in the rapidly growing creative youth sector, which has long operated with limited structured support. “This is a direct investment in youth creativity and the digital economy, aimed at increasing employment opportunities and income for Tanzanians,” he emphasized. Stakeholders in the sector have identified limited access to capital as a key barrier to the growth of digital content creation. Therefore, the Government’s initiative is expected to boost high-quality content production, increase incomes, and position Tanzania as a hub for creative content in the East African region.
